VOM Summer Sundays

The 8' x 10' Jail of the Persecuted Church

The 8′ x 10′ Jail of the Persecuted Church

Schedule of VOM (Voice of the Martyr) VBS being used during the Summer/into fall Sundays.  VOM Summer (click to download pdf)  You can also follow along at home for a weekly home devotional.  You will need to buy the VOM VBS pack.  It is incredibly complete.  Homeschool students or Christian Schools could use it for their Bible curriculum for a semester.

Kids in the "Jail"

Kids in the “Jail”

The Jail is optional, but the children are completely fascinated by it.  I’m not sure if they have grasped the full meaning of it.  I think I need to bring in a potential meal.  I should ask my friends if they have any food “growing” in their refrigerators.  If they will admit it, we could use it. Other wise, I better make some rice and beans right now so I have time for them to “ferment.”  The stinkier the better.

Stinky Fake Puke Recipe:  2 Tbsp Corn starch, 2 Tbsp Salt, 1 cup sauerkraut, 1 can Anchovies or cheap tuna, 1-2 Bones (optional), 6 drops Green food coloring, 2 drop red food coloring, 1/2 cup Water, 1 Tbsp vinegar  Directions:  Mix salt, cornstarch, 1/2 cup water and food coloring.  Microwave on high for 20 seconds. Mix but leave chunks.  Add anchovies, 1 Tbsp vinegar, sauerkraut and bones.  Let sit for a week.

Making the Jail

Making the Jail!

8′ x 10′ jail cell may hold as many as 8 adults in a Vietnam jail.  Ours is made out of card board, boards, and a tarp.  It is definitely much cleaner.  I’m sure the public health inspecter would have problems with us recreating a more “realistic”  jail cell.  I will try to do my best to help the kids understand that persecuted christian all over the world aren’t living in a cardboard doll house.  (Which is the thought they have right now–uhg)
