Lesson Week Four: God’s Love Can Reach the Lost

Youtube Video week four:
“East Timor Video – Love Them Like Jesus” by pphbrethrenchurch

Lesson week four: Our verses for today’s class are: 1 Corinthians 13:7, 13)
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
…13 …these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Now let’s practice our entire 1 Corinthians 13 set of verses.
1 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing.
3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.
(NIV) 4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
…13 …these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
–Just because I can speak someone’s language, even if I have a great sermon, or give up all my stuff to feed these poor people, if I don’t show them my love. They still won’t see Jesus in me. I will have lost my chance to show them Jesus, and they will have lost a chance to see him at work. You have to show people you care for them before they will listen to you. For example: If your parents hated you, but because they felt guilty they gave you every toy you wanted. At first it might seem great, but soon you would realize that things like toys can’t replace love. And you would be very sad.
God’s love can touch people’s hearts like nothing else can. If you love, care and listen to people, and then you learn their language and give your money, you will show great love.
Hear are some practical ways you can show people that you love them:
1. Ask people questions about themselves. (What kinds of questions can you ask? –list them on the chalk board)
2. Show them you are listening to them, because they are important to God and to you (How do you know someone is listening to you? –eye contact, stay quite, posture)
3. Signs that you care: What is good touch between friends? –a pat on the back, touch the back of the hand, put your hand on their shoulder. Other signs besides touch? concerned eyes,
–The Bible says to be happy with them if something good has happened to them, and be sad with them if something sad has happened. (Romans 12:15) You are to be happy for them even if the reason they are happy is that they have something that you want. That might remind you that you wanted that thing. You might be tempted to think that you deserved it more then them. This is called jealousy and it is very dangerous. Jealousy can make you sad when you should be happy for someone. Remember God will give you everything he knows you need. It is your job to show love even when you don’t feel like it. Because “7 It (Love) always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” … in every circumstance…(NLT)
